NBA: Spurs in Suns showdown
Friday 30, Apr 2010

The Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs will meet in the NBA Western Conference semi-finals. This was after both came through their first-round encounters on Thursday. San Antonio won 97-87 against Texan rivals the Dallas Mavericks in a topsy-turvy match at the AT&T Center to complete a 4-2 series success. The Spurs led by 22 points after 18 minutes before rookie Rodrigue Beaubois and star forward Dirk Nowitzki combined to help the Mavericks gain the lead in the third - albeit for just 21 seconds. The Spurs ultimately prevailed as George Hill claimed 10 vital points in the final quarter. Manu Ginobili top-scored for the Spurs with 26, while Nowitzki netted 33 in defeat for Dallas. The Spurs will now head to Phoenix for the first game of the semi-final series on Monday after the Suns won 99-90 against the Portland Trail Blazers for a 4-2 series victory. Jason Richardson top-scored for the Arizona side with 28 points, nailing five three-pointers from eight attempts. Forward Amar'e Stoudamire added another 22 for the Suns, who ended the regular season with the third-best record in the Western Conference. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 16 points as the Blazers' season came to an end.
